Defibrillators

Generic Defibrillator
A defibrillator is a life-saving piece of technology that’s used to deliver an electric shock through the chest wall when someone goes into cardiac arrest.

If you believe a person has suffered a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and is unresponsive and not breathing, immediately ring either 999 or 112 and ask for the ambulance service.

They will advise you on what action to take and either inform you where your nearest defibrillator is located or ask if you have a defibrillator. The operator will remain on the line and ask you a series of questions which should only take you a few moments and advise you on what steps to take to assist in emergency.

The Parish Council has added an additional facility to its Defibrillators; all of which are now fitted with a grab bag containing a Bleed Control Kit in the cabinet. This includes the telephone box in Burlawn. The kit contains equipment such as specialist dressings, trauma bandages a tourniquet and shears that should provide the vital First Aid resources necessary to prevent or reduce catastrophic blood loss until professional medical help arrives.

The kit can be accessed in the same way as the defibrillator by dialling 999 and asking for the Ambulance Service. They will advise you on what action to take. You should tell them that there is a bleed control kit located in the Defibrillator cabinet.
